Frogs of Melbourne/
An animated PSA on frog conservation.
Summary: A frame by frame animated frog PSA set in Melbourne's city, featuring surreal giant frogs in urban spaces.
Various frog species are going extinct and conservation efforts have been difficult. This is because frogs are not the most "marketable" animal to public. In response, this project aims to create a fantastical giant frog, animated frame-by-frame and overlaid on footage of Melbourne. In sum, this video draws attention to the small creatures, in hopes of raising awareness for the need to protect them from going extinct.
With my interest in 2d frame by fram animation, I wanted to mesh these animated frogs to in-real-life footage. I thought the effects would heighten the uncanny valley effect of this PSA, as well as add some larrikin charm to the animation. With some post-processing in Adobe Aftereffects, I added some added shadows and made colour adjustments to help them fit into the Melbourne cityscape.
